Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man, is a unique blend of holiday resort, finance centre and working harbour, and as such, offers the visitor a wealth of things to do. It is here, in the pedestrianised shopping centre, that you may find many of the major high street stores, plus a number of specialist shops. A trip along Douglas Promenade in the world's oldest horsedrawn trams is a must. The Isle of Man Steam Railway founded in 1873, operates throughout the summer and runs from Douglas to Port Erin in the South, passing through some magnificent countryside. Douglas is also where you can step aboard the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey and Ramsey, where you can sample a whole range of inspired cuisine, play golf or simply stroll along the promenade, gaze out to sea and begin to discover the true meaning of 'time enough' or, in Manx Gaelic, 'traa dy liooar'. |
