Hotel Description

Opened on Queen Victoria's coronation day in June 1838, the Royal Bath Hotel was the first hotel in Bournemouth. It offers 3 hotel restaurants, a health spa and lovely sea views. Just moments from the seafront, this classically styled hotel has well-equipped rooms, each including a satellite TV and free internet. Some rooms also offer views of the secluded grounds and across the bay. Royal Bath's restaurant uses seasonal, local produce whenever possible. Drinks, sandwiches and afternoon cream teas are served in the relaxed Lounge. For their dining experience, guests can choose from the views at the Garden Restaurant, light meals at the Cafe Promenade or fine dining at Oscar’s, named after regular hotel guest Oscar Wilde. The Leisure Pavillion allows guests to relax in an indoor pool, hot tub or sauna. There is also a gym and a range of health and beauty treatments available. Access to the spa and leisure facilities is subject to a surcharge.

Bournemouth became the popular holiday resort it is today when the eminent physician Dr Granville recommended its mild sunny climate for those with poor health. Until 1811 the area had been undeveloped until the local squire built a summer house there (where the Exeter hotel now stands). His investment was the beginning of a massive expansion of the resort and the town's population grew from only 695 to 59,000 in only 50 years. Few resorts can match its six miles of sandy beaches and magnificent 100 foot cliffs. Lifts and walks connect the beaches with the streets and there is an excellent range of sporting venues, cinemas, theatres, shops and restaurants.
