Hotel Description

In the historic medieval walled town of Conwy: the gateway to North Wales. Our home is an imposing Victorian town house where we offer a warm friendly welcome and a relaxed informal environment. Castlebank was built in 1850 as a private residence and was occupied by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries as a research and administration centre from the 1920’s, before conversion to a hotel in the late 1970’s. Since 2003 we have worked hard to restore the ambience of a Victorian house and welcoming family home. Located in its own grounds with private parking, Castlebank offers our guests a quiet stay within walking distance of the town and all its facilities. Gorgeous views of the castle, estuary and surrounding hills can be enjoyed from the front of the house. We look forward to welcoming you and helping you to enjoy your stay in Conwy. With nine individually styled cosy bedrooms, guest lounge, bar, breakfast dining room and parking for all rooms Castlebank provides the ideal setting for couples looking for a quiet weekend or holiday break, a group celebrating a special occasion or a family get together. It is well placed for accessing all the activities in the area, including walking, mountain biking or using the house as a base for a group residential stay. We have hosted bird watching groups, art weeks, songwriting courses, walking weekends, car touring groups, family celebrations and small wedding receptions. In all cases we have tailored the event and menus to fit the requirements of the group. Please do contact us to discuss your event and plans.

Castlebank Hotel
Everything was perfect. The owners thought of every little thing that would make the stay lovely, even down to a bottle of water each in the room. Extra attention was paid due to the cold weather and we were supplied with heaters. The food was fantastic. We would definitely return :)

It was good to visit the Castlebank Hotel again. They\'re really welcoming and make everything straightforward. It\'s in a great spot for any business in NW Wales (and also if you have time to sneak in a bit of sightseeing!).

A Perfect Stay
My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at Castlebank Hotel. The hotel was in the perfect position next to Conwy castle. The hotel was very clean, warm and welcoming and Henrique was the perfect host. After our night on the town we came back and ordered a couple of drinks from the bar. It was quiet, so Henrique asked us to sit in the cosy room next door while he brought us our drinks. When he brought them he stayed at chatted for a while, telling us about the history of the hotel and Conwy itself. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. We also liked that Classic FM was playing quietly in the social rooms, creating a calming atmosphere. We will definitely be going again.

Plas Mawr Elizabethan Town House - Museum

Plas Mawr Elizabethan Town House - Museum

Distance 0.15 miles (0.23 km)
At the heart of Medieval Conwy stands Plas Mawr, the "Great Hall", built between 1576 and 1585 for the Welsh merchant, Robert Wynn. This richly decorated building is an architectural gem, possibly the best preserved Elizabethan townhouse in Great Britain. It dominates the town of Conwy with its gatehouse, stepped gables and lookout tower. This "worthy plentiful house" is especially noted for the quality and quantity of its ornamental plasterwork, now fully restored to its original splendour. Plas Mawr's authentic period atmosphere is further enhanced by furnishings, many original to the house, based on an inventory of the contents in 1665.The interior with its elaborately decorated plaster ceilings and fine wooden screens, reflects the wealth and influence of the Tudor gentry in Wales.
