As Good As We Remembered
My son and I last stayed in 2006 (when he was 13) and we had fond memories of a lovely stay. This trip was a walk down memory lane for the Hotel and Blackpool.

Neither disappointed.

We arrived early and were immediately offered a hot drink and on checking were told our room was ready so able to check in.

Seaview twin room was clean and tidy. Small bathroom but did the job. Decent TV and well stocked tea/coffee tray.

Breakfast was great and nothing was to much trouble. Long time since I indulged in some fried bread...tasty and crunchy..

Breakfast set us up for the day and kept us going till mid afternoon.

Ensured we made it back to the hotel each night for a nightcap and was happy with the selection and prices.

Checked out but were able to leave our bags at the hotel till later in the day allowing us one last day in Blackpool.

Will definitely vist again.

Blackpools Hidden Gem
Have stayed at the Canasta several times now and have never been disappointed. Hosts Doug and Mandy and their team make you feel so welcome from the minute you arrive that it truly is a home away from home.

Rooms are clean and comfortable and breakfast was superb.

Entertainment comes in the form of Karaoke hosted by Doug and makes for a real fun atmosphere.

To sum up, all round good value for money and a really friendly atmosphere ensure we wouldn't stay anywhere else on our trips to Blackpool now that we've found the Canasta, love the place.

The hotel is very clean and so was the rooms we had, there's everything you need in the room for your stay a little like been at home.

There's unlimited tea/coffee in the lobby and the full English breakfast was amazing.

Short Stay
We stayed here for one night on the 19th November. It was very much a last minute booking following a recommendation by a friend. Although very much end of season, we were welcomed with a refreshing pot of tea from our host, who was very helpful. Our room was situated on the second floor and was as expected. A comfortable bed, en suite and practical. It did need a slight spruce up but nothing much else. Our breakfast on the Sunday morning was exceptional. All in all great value for money.

Sept Week End Break 2016
The Canasta is a good value for money hotel situated on the North Shore seafront. Public areas are clean and tidy and the Karaoke and cabaret at week ends are a great bonus, breakfast is good with a varied selection and you can get tea or coffee at any time for free. The rooms are a bit tired with some small repairs needed and some work which wouldn't cost a lot to tidy them up but they are clean and you are only sleeping in them . All things said it is worth a visit and we will certainly return in the future.

Great Mini Break
Arrived at Canasta Sunday afternoon, staying 3 nights with my wife and 2 good friends in September. We were quickly met by owner and offered free tea or coffee and were shown to our rooms. We were allocated one of the back rooms as wasn't bothered about sea view. Room was clean with small ensuite, television, tea & coffee etc.

First night bar stayed open till about 11.30pm as there was a few people in but after Sunday there was only 6 people staying so bar closed early.

Best thing about this place has to be the breakfast, served between 9 - 9.45am. Plenty to eat big breakfast plus juice and unlimited tea & coffee.

We had a very pleasant stay with no hassle and free parking outside for the car.

We very much enjoyed our three-night stay at the Canasta. The hotel is conveniently-located and has lovely views over the sea. Staff are friendly and accommodating; we were particularly impressed with the availability of free tea, coffee and orange squash in the lounge during the day. Breakfast was well-cooked and plentiful, and it was good to have until 10am to order it.

Our room was quiet and the beds were very comfy indeed. In-room refreshments were topped up every day.

6 family members stayed for 1 night in August. All of us enjoyed our stay, all staff members made us feel very welcome and were very friendly, nothing was to much trouble. Free tea and coffee at any time in the sun lounge is a wonderful addition and was greatly appreciated by all , especially my 85 yr old mum. The full English breakfast on offer went down well and kept us full for most of the day.

The only negative was other clients smoking right outside the entrance door. As non smokers it was very unpleasant to have to walk through this haze of smoke and they did also block the entrance somewhat. Can I suggest that smokers are made to stand away from the door to keep this exit free.

The room was great, it did say it was small in the description but we didn't realise that it was going to be as small as it was - this wasn't an issue for us but if you like space go for a bigger room.

The hotel is in easy walking distance to all the major attractions in the city.

The breakfast was superb! The full english filled you up for the day, and the salmon as also fantastic. We didn't get to try the pancakes as it was quiet when we went so they ran a limited breakfast menu.

Lovely Stay
We were a group of 12 staying for the weekend. I cant speak for the other rooms but my room number 31 and my mums room, number 27, were lovely. Clean and tidy. Bathroom was clean. All windows and doors etc opened and closed properly. Breakfast was nice and the staff didn't mind us being awkward and making our own breakfasts up! Although pancakes and mushrooms were missed! The staff were polite and helpful, especially the guy begin the bar. And whenever we were waiting in the lounge for the rest of our party, we were offered tea/coffee. Overall, very good stay and well worth the price 😊

Reccomend To Families, Amazing Breakfast, Karaoke
We come every year as a family with about 9 of us, the staff are wonderful and helpful. The breakfast is amazing and they even help you set up and tidy up if you get take away of an evening. They will put karaoke on if there is enough demand which is great and so much fun because staff even have a go every now and again. The showers can be a bit akward to get the temperature right but not that big of a problem. Would recommend this to families of any size.

A Little Disappointing
We have stopped at the Canasta before and have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. As usual the owners, all the staff and breakfast were excellent but I felt I had to mention our room (31) as it was very tired. Small things like ceiling lampshade askew, no window covering at all in bathroom, curtain in room hanging off due to coming unhooked, the general room decor and the fact that a plastic glass with rubbish was on the landing for the 2 nights we stayed, were to me all things that should have been rectified with a little attention to detail in the housekeeping. I am reluctant to point out these small faults as we did enjoy our stay but I am sure if it were me then I would rather be told then I could rectify them. Finally our findings would certainly not put us off staying at the Canasta when we are in Blackpool again so I hope this feedback is taken in the same spirit as it is given.

Response from Hotel
Thanks Peter for your honest comments. I think it\'s time we had a refresher course for all the staff. We\'re aware some room need re-decorating but times are hard. The bills keep coming in and it\'s getting harder to keep our heads above water. But we do what we can and if we have a busier year will definitely be re-investing any profit into decorating. In the meantime a refresher course on cleanliness and general sloppiness will be delivered to the staff. I\'m pleased you\'ll be coming back - we definitely appreciate your custom - and singing! :)

Blackpool Tower - Landmark

Blackpool Tower - Landmark

Distance 0.7 miles (1.13 km)
Blackpool Tower opened on 14th May 1894, with the aquarium existing as a stand a lone attraction from the late 1870's. The tower is 518ft 9inches tall, with the walk of faith at 380ft from street level. The Tower alone contains 2,493 tons of steel and 93 tons of cast iron. The building at the base contains 985 tons of steel and 259 tons of cast iron.
The Tower has a viewing platform at 380ft above the promenade and is reached by a lift or if you are a maintanance worker by 536 steps!
Not for the feint hearted is the 'Walk of Faith' glass floor, a two inch clear panel that looks straight down to the Promenade below.
The 'Walk of Faith' glass floor panel was placed at the Tower top in 1998. The glass floor weighs half a tonne and is made up of two sheets of laminated glass. The 'Walk of Faith' can withstand the weight equivalent to five baby elephants.
To reach the top viewing platform at approximately 450ft you can walk up 2 flights of stairs.
The present Ballroom was designed by Frank Matcham and opened in 1899. The Ballroom floor measures 120ft by 102ft. It comprises 30,602 separate blocks of mahogany, oak and walnut. The first Wurlitzer organ was installed in the Ballroom in 1929. It was replaced in 1935 with one to Reginald Dixon's specification. The first organ went to the Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens.
During the day visit the Ballroom to hear one of the famous organs being played. The Tower Ballroom is the traditional home of the mighty Wurlitzer Organ which rises up through the stage and complemented by the 3 Deck Wersi - the world's most advanced Blackpool Tower Ballroom - The Wurlitzer Organorgan, it includes over 600 sounds in the software, is touch screen sensitive and can create the sound of a complete orchestra.
The Tower Circus is positioned at the base of the tower, between its four legs. The circus first opened to the public on 14 May 1894 and has not missed a season since.

The present interior was designed by Frank Matcham and was completed in 1900.

The circus ring can be lowered into a pool of water and holds 42,000 gallons at a depth of up to 4 ft 6 inches, which allows for Grand Finales with Dancing Fountains. The Tower Circus is one of four left in the world that can do this.
During more than a century of entertainment, the world's greatest circus stars have paraded across its ring. The clown Charlie Cairoli appeared at the tower for 39 years. Britain's best-known ringmaster Norman Barrett worked the ring for 25 years.
Animals appeared in the circus until 1990.
It was planned to close the famous circus at the end of the 1990 season and replace it with an animatronic attraction. Public opinion and the fact the animatronics were not ready meant that the circus continued.
Today, the circus is produced and directed by Hungarian Laci Endresz. A live band (sometimes accompanied by Mooky the Clown) provides all the music for the show, often dynamically syncing with the performers' movements. The circus band play a variety of different songs, usually Latin for the acts. In the winter the circus stages a pantomime instead of the regular show.
The oldest part of the building is the aquarium which was part of Dr Cockers' Menagarie and Aquarium in the 1870s.[1] It was kept open to earn revenue while the tower building went up around it. The aquarium was modelled on the limestone caverns in Derbyshire. It houses 57 different species of fresh water and salt water fish and the largest tank holds 32,000 litres of salt water.[28]
The aquarium closed permanently at the end of the 2010 season and will be completely remodelled to make way for a new "Dungeons" attraction.[29] This is part of the investment by the Merlin Group, who took over the operation of the Tower at the end of the 2010 season on behalf of new owners Blackpool Council
