The Hotel is set in 20 acres of secluded gardens and woodland, and affords an unrivalled panorama of magnificent scenery. The Old Man of Coniston, Scafell, Fairfield and the Langdale Pikes form a dramatic backdrop to Lake Windermere. The Hotel is open all year including Christmas and New Year and has been awarded three stars 'Highly Commended' by the English Tourist Board. Cragwood House was originally designed by Frank Dunkley and built in 1910 for the industrialist Albert Warburton. The House was featured in the August edition of Country Life, 1912.

Windermere Steamboats & Museum is located on a former sand wharf site where, for many years, barges unloaded gravel dredged from the bed of the lake. When this operation ceased in 1975, the Windermere Nautical Trust acquired the use of the site and the Museum was built in 1976-77 with the help of The Maritime Trust and the English Tourist Board.
