Overnight Stay En Route From Islay To Glasgow
We were very happy with our stay here and feel that the hotel represents really good value for money. It may not be the smartest or most modern we have stayed in but was clean and very comfortable and the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff made up for any deficiencies in decor or fixtures and fittings. We ate dinner in the bar and the meal was excellent and the portions huge . The bus from the ferry/Glasgow stops right outside and there is a lovely walk down to the loch opposite the hotel. We would happily stay again.

Comfortable Break In Our Journey.
We stayed one night in the Lochgair Hotel. The owner carried my case to the room, which was quiet although it overlooked the main road. The room, bedding and bathroom were clean and the shower worked well, with plenty hot water. We ate in the bar at night. The meal and drinks were very good value for money. An excellent breakfast was served in the breakfast room. The hotel is in need of decoration outside and inside but this was reflected in the fair price for the room and the food. The hotel has interesting features which we hope are not lost when the hotel is redecorated. We enjoyed our stay and departed feeling refreshed for our onward journey. Thank you. 4 stars ( can’t get the reset button to work)

Short Break
The hotel building looks rather tired and in need of upgrading as do the rooms inside. However this should not put anyone off staying here as the rooms are clean, the location is good and the food served in the evening is excellent with a wide choice of dishes. The girl who worked in the bar was very welcoming and had a smile for everyone. Definitely a good choice if you are heading to Tarbert or the island ferries.

Good Stay
This is not an upmarket hotel, however it is clean comfortable and great value for money.

The staff were super friendly and helpful

The was spacious, clean, comfortable, cosy and well equipped. The bed was super comfy and I slept well the towels were nice and soft.

The bar is comfy and well equipped with a fabulous selection of whisky.

Bar food is available which was well cooked and reasonably priced.

The breakfast was cooked to order it was piping hot and very tasty.

Plenty of free parking is available on site.

The downside is the Wifi is non existent and needs a serious look at as the phone coverage is patchy for some suppliers at the location so communication is not good.

A Group Of Seven
Hotel has good location by the road. Enough parking space, though some of the places are on the other side of the busy road. We left too early to enjoy the breakfast. Bed was OK, not the best, but defenitly not the worst one I have been sleeeping with. Staff was helpfull 😎

Friendly Hotel
This is where we always stay when going to Argyll. We have stayed in other places in the area in the past and this hotel is the best combination of location, cost and friendliness. 'Posher' places in the locality are more expensive and do not provide the informal, friendly, helpfulness one receives here. Perhaps not '5 star' in superficial appearance but rated so in other ways.

Small And Friendly
The exterior of the hotel shows wear and tear but the interior decor is good and there has been a progressive renovation program over recent times. The dining/bar area is very welcoming with a log fire and wood panelling. There is a good variety of whisky but also some very good ales (such as Arran Blonde). The food is straightforward pub/hotel in style but with high quality ingredients and cooked very well. The rooms are of good standard and comfortable with the style and facilities one would expect in this size and price-range of hotel. There is a resident's lounge with pool table. The staff are friendly and very helpful-one of the key points in a small, family run hotel like this. It has a great situation on the main route to lovely parts of Argyll. We have stayed there several times mainly because of the relaxed and friendly feel, reasonable cost and well-cooked food. In our view, it compares very favourably with a number of other hotels in the locality. People who would be diaappointed are those who wish for the '5 star' facilities of much higher priced places or who would want 'fine dining' rather than good, straightforward food.

On this stay, our only complaints were that there was only instant coffee at breakfast (something that has never been the case on previous visits) and an earlier check-out time of 10.00 for some reason (normally 10.30) that was a minor nuisance. On several previous stays, we have no complaints at all.

One Night Stop
We choose the Lochgairn hotel because of th location ca 2,5 hour from Edinburgh and approx one hour from Kennacraig (the ferry to Islay) The hotel is not new but it was nice and the 2 men in the bar was friendly an nice. In the morning we was served full Scottish breakfast...very good. The price was perhaps little high if we compared it with the hotel we choose on the way back...but much cheaper than Islay hotel in Port Ellen. We can think to stay one night another time.

Review Of Our Stay
We, as a party of four, stayed for 3 nights at Lochgair Hotel. Having read previous reviews, which in our opinion are complete rubbish, we did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the entrance hall, bedrooms, ensuites, lounge areas and dining areas were very clean, comfortable and spacious. We had three breakfasts and two evening meals and all were excellent. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful.I did mention on my departure all thhe above but also spoke about the external paintwork and cracked windows which give a bad impression when arriving at the Hotel. I was told this will be remied later in the year when the road outside the Hotel will be resurfaced and the necessary windows will be renewed and paintwork done.We would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel.Previous reviews show no resamblance to our stay here.
